the eventual and inevitable fall of twitter marks a change in the advertising industry, and tumblr is unclaimed territory. if we want tumblr to remain the social media bastion it has become, it needs to remain as unappealing to corporations as possible. do not engage. in a marketing strategist’s eyes, any kind of attention is good attention. don’t “silence, brand” them. don’t kungpowpenis them. don’t send them hate anons. don’t hate-follow them. corporate tumblrs are not a single entity and they will not be harassed off this site. we only have a shot at repelling them because of tumblr’s lack of an algorithm. so turn off recommended posts on your dashboard, put it chronological order, and install an adblocker. if you don’t seek out these blazed posts and actively ignore them when they happen upon you, the corporations will starve. in this case, the best kind of protest is a silent one

I go into the tag for epilepsy and its all flashing lights. We can’t use our own tag because people without epilepsy fill it up with improper warnings.

Use ‘flashing’ in place of ‘epilepsy’ in your tags. You aren’t warning people of epileptics, you’re warning us of flashing lights. Please please tag properly. Epileptics say this endlessly and constantly and it’s ignored. You are risking lives by doing this.

Is there really a need to be so rude to aspiring lawyer studyblrs who use the lawblr tag? Maybe some of them don’t know yet that there’s a ‘real’ and ‘fake’ version of the tag and they just are looking to find others who are also in law school or studying law. I highly respect you as a practicing lawyer but I just think it’s a bit weird that the ‘real’ community is gatekeeping the tag like this? Like what do you gain from this? You were a student too once no?

Buddy. I am a Tumblr old. From the before times. As in, before studyblr was even a thing. And we all lived happily in the lawblr tag. And then suddenly those aesthetic posts were tagging every -blr under the sun to try to get clout and attention and those of us who used the lawblr tag both didn’t want to see that kind of content and couldn’t find our friends content we had previously been using the tag for.

And because we couldn’t stop studyblr’s from using every -blr tag they could get their hands on, @marendezvouspoint created a BRAND NEW TAG for us to have our non-aesthetic posts on. That’s literally the only rule. Students post about school stress. Lawyers posts about practice stress. There’s a lot of jokes and memes and the kind of content we ALWAYS HAD before studyblrs were a thing.

Nobody ever said there was a ‘fake’ version of the tag. And despite the fact that we have indicated that “real lawblr” is just a Defined Term for the purposes of content identification, people continue to impose their own interpretation onto that and create a false narrative of “real” vs “fake” when one does not actually exist.

This community is primarily comprised of women who went out and created our own space to feel safe and supported in. We can gatekeep it to our hearts content when people decide to attack us by using our own fucking tag KNOWING that the content will be seen by the audience the attack is directed against.

It’s the pretty common rule of the internet. Don’t tag your anti- shit with the community you’re bitching against unless you fully intend for them to see and react to it. Would you tag a long post about how you hate New Girl with all the new girl tags and ships? No? Then why is this any different?

I’m currently on mobile while my kid eats lunch so I can’t tag my past posts on this but honestly I have said repeatedly no one is stopping anyone from blogging whatever the fuck they want. A LOT of the real lawblr crew either posts studyblr stuff or runs full on studyblr side blogs. But they don’t tag it “real lawblr” because the tag is not for that kind of content.

All of the people you find on the Real Lawblr tag are practicing or studying law, including a couple paralegals who perhaps have the best content I’ve seen in years. Don’t come looking for us and then shit in our house when you don’t like what you find.
